The school is great and there have never been any bullying cases!
2 3/23/2020
My son recently attended Carroll, and I believed it was going great until I found out he was being bullied. He was afraid to tell me and his grandparents because he knew we would have pulled him out and put him back into home school. He is a freshman and told his teacher about this bullying and apparently nothing was done to where it escalated into the cafeteria. Multiple students were calling him vulgar names loud enough for him to hear but apparently none of the teachers or officers could hear it. My son went to the kids calling him names and asked why. Then another student, who has been bullying him and threatening him all school year, came up behind my son and shoved him. My son punched him to let this kid and others' kids know to leave him alone once and for all and that he wasn't weak. It was an unfortunate reaction because after this, my son, as well as the other student in the altercation, was immediately sent to jury for five hours, suspended, expelled, had to go to court, had to pay fines, had to write the school an apology letter, and is forced to go to an alternative school in the courthouse to lift it off his record otherwise it would be considered an expulsion. I'm not saying I agree with my son's actions not one bit but this is very harsh and extreme for such a small offense especially considering he told an adult/ teacher about the bullying and nothing was done and because this was my son's first and only altercation in or out of school. The other fact is both my son and this other kid are both identified as African-American, even though my son is bi-racial (African-American and Caucasian) and has only been raised by his Caucasian half of his family. I don't believe this small offense should have been punishable this extreme! It is ridiculous, and I, as well as others, are outraged!!!!!

Teachers in 19 States Allowed to Physically Punish Students
As of 2014, nineteen states still allow corporal punishment – spanking and paddling the most common choices – in their public schools. However, some argue that not only are these punishments physically harmful, they also are disproportionately administered to students of color. As a result, House democrats have taken up the issue in a new bill that would ban all forms of corporal punishment nationwide.
