I want to thank East York Elementary School for continuing to take care of the memorial for Justin Flegel these past 20 years. Since I now live in Georgia, whenever I am visiting York I stop at the school to see how big the oak tree has grown. The oak tree was 10 years old, the same age as my son Justin was when he was killed. The tree is now 30 years old, beautiful and strong. It means a lot to me to be able to see the memorial for my son. Thank you again and know that the memorial is greatly appreciated. Carolyn Flegel

As of 2014, nineteen states still allow corporal punishment – spanking and paddling the most common choices – in their public schools. However, some argue that not only are these punishments physically harmful, they also are disproportionately administered to students of color. As a result, House democrats have taken up the issue in a new bill that would ban all forms of corporal punishment nationwide.
